Esenboğa Airport confirms luggage lockers on its arrivals floor. They are the practical starting point for an airport-to-airport outing, but not automatically the best choice after a city-hotel checkout. The 2026 official tariff charges by size for a full day even when storage lasts only a few hours. [1][2]

Where to go in the terminal

Follow signs for Emanet Eşya or Left Luggage on the arrivals level, or ask the airport information desk for the current locker bay. The English service page confirms the floor but gives little operational detail; the terminal directory refers to domestic arrivals, while a local airport business describes the international-arrivals side. Those descriptions are not precise enough to promise a particular doorway. [1][3][4]

This is a case where a short question at the terminal is better than following a saved photograph of an old counter. Ask for storage, not lost property. A locker you deliberately rent and an office handling items accidentally left behind are different services, even though both may appear in search results for luggage at the airport.

One business worth ruling out is Aşkın Fly's airport ticket office. Its own guidance explicitly says that it does not accept bags and does not operate the lockers. Do not arrive at office No.10 expecting a staffed storage desk simply because its website explains the service. [3]

Before leaving the airport, confirm the collection arrangement for the time you expect to return. The retrieved official locker page does not publish sufficiently clear opening or assistance hours to guarantee an overnight retrieval. An airport operating around the clock does not, by itself, prove that every staffed service has the same schedule. [1]

What storage costs in 2026

DHMİ's 2026 tariff gives the following Esenboğa charges, including VAT. The relevant section is the luggage-locker tariff, not the separate tariff for lost-baggage storage. [2]

Listed size category Charge for up to 24 hours
Small TRY180
Medium TRY250
Large / oversized TRY480
XL TRY600
XXL TRY750

A shorter stay still attracts the daily charge. A four-hour visit therefore does not reduce a medium item's listed charge to one-sixth of TRY250. This is the most important distinction when comparing airport storage with simply retaining a small cabin bag. [2]

The tariff labels are not a dimensional guarantee. Measure the bag if it is unusually long or rigid, and establish the category before committing. A suitcase sold by an airline retailer as cabin-sized does not automatically correspond to the airport's small category.

For a worked planning example, two separately charged medium items would cost TRY500 for the first daily period. That is arithmetic based on the listed categories, not a quote that two particular suitcases will qualify. Do not assume that multiple bags may share a compartment or that one booking covers every item in your party. [2]

If your return might cross a charging boundary, obtain the extra-period rule before departure. A nominally inexpensive storage choice becomes less attractive when a flight delay or overnight stay introduces another full charge that you had not budgeted for.

What to take out before closing the locker

Keep your passport, travel documents, essential medication and the phone or payment method needed to retrieve the bag with you. Pack the small day bag before reaching the locker area so you can see exactly what remains inaccessible during the outing.

The official tariff excludes food and drink, sharp objects, flammable or explosive materials and high-value items such as money and jewellery. It states that charges are collected on return and an invoice is issued. Read the machine's instructions as well: practical payment and retrieval steps still need to be understood at the actual unit. [2]

Keep the receipt or access code private and retain an offline backup where appropriate. A photograph of the locker number can be useful, but do not post a readable retrieval code in a travel update. Check that the door is secured before walking away.

For expensive equipment, do not treat a locked compartment as proof of comprehensive insurance. Ask about the terms and exclusions rather than assuming that every loss is reimbursed at replacement value. The safest storage decision may be to keep a necessary camera or computer with you and store only clothing and nonessential items.

Airport storage versus a hotel or central station

Choose airport storage when your journey genuinely returns to Esenboğa before you need the bag again. That describes a long connection with a city outing, or a short excursion before a later flight. It avoids carrying the suitcase into town and then bringing it back on the same route.

Choose your hotel as the first enquiry when you have checked out in central Ankara and will pass the property on the way to the airport. Ask whether storage is available to departing guests, whether it costs extra and when reception can release the bags. Do not make an additional airport journey merely to store luggage before sightseeing.

A nearby airport hotel is not automatically a public left-luggage business. No independently bookable nearby hotel-storage service with verified non-guest conditions was established for this guide. A property agreeing to hold bags for its own overnight guests is a different proposition from accepting any walk-in traveller.

For an onward train journey, Ankara's high-speed station complex, ATG, explicitly lists storage lockers among its services. It is a central-city alternative, not a facility next to Esenboğa. Its location makes sense when the next departure is from the station; airport lockers would create an unnecessary return trip. [5]

Make the flight, not just the locker deadline

Work backward from the airline's required check-in or airport-arrival time. Add bag collection before that point, then the journey back from your outing. Do not subtract storage time from the buffer you had allowed for traffic, security or finding the correct departure area.

For an international connection, leaving the transit area is a separate eligibility question. A storage facility on the arrivals floor does not confer permission to enter the country. Confirm your own entry and connection arrangements with the airline and responsible authorities rather than treating the availability of lockers as approval to leave.

The strongest choice is the one that removes a journey: airport lockers for an airport round trip, hotel storage for a hotel-to-airport day, and station lockers for a rail departure. Pay attention to the daily minimum, confirm retrieval access, and make collection a planned stage rather than the final rushed errand before boarding.
